June 11, 2010
Cochrane, Alberta

At approximately 21:00 on May 17, 2010, an individual jumped from the Highway 22 overpass onto a Canadian Pacific freight train in Cochrane, AB. The eastbound train was moving at the time. The train was stopped and the individual was apprehended and charged with Petty Trespass by Cochrane RCMP.

During the investigation, a YouTube video of the train jumping incident was uncovered.

This morning, the Canadian Pacific Police Service, assisted by Cochrane RCMP and the Calgary Police Service, executed a search warrant at the residence of Mr. Christopher Ball of Cochrane. Mr. Ball was charged with Mischief under section 430 (1) (c) of the Criminal Code of Canada. A computer, camera and electronic storage devices were also seized.

Mr. Ball has been served a summons to answer the charge in Cochrane Provincial Court on July 8, 2010.

A joint investigation by the Canadian Pacific Police Service, Cochrane RCMP and the Calgary Police Service continues.

Trespassing on railway property and climbing on board a freight train is both illegal and very dangerous, with serious injuries or fatalities resulting in past incidents.
