NOTE: Please be advised that CP has made several enhancements to our Surplus Assets for Sale auctioning tool. If you had subscribed prior to the enhancements, your subscription functionality and notifications will not be changed. We have added some additional tender classification categories, which you should subscribe to if you are interested in receiving notifications for these specific items.
Some notable changes are:
- As the bidder, you will no longer have a choice in bid currency. Each tender will have a specified currency. All bids must be received in the tender currency. This will streamline our evaluation process
- The FOB option will be specified more discretely on the tender. In some cases, this option will be fixed. In other cases, where we have more flexibility, we will request you choose a "ship to" location (CP or SOO railway station name). This will streamline our evaluation process
- On selected tenders you will have the ability to be notified by email if you are outbid, to see the highest bid at that point in time, and/or to see the reserve price (the price below which the item will not be sold). This information is intended to help you manage your bids efficiently and effectively.
- As a bidder, you will see tenders in two statuses, "Posted" which indicates that the item is for sale through CP's site and "e-Posted" which will have a link to a tender posting on an external site (like eBay). We have added the ability to see CP tenders posted on external sites in order to help you fully leverage our subscription service. In this way, you will be notified of tender postings on other sites just by subscribing to CP's home site categories.

CP Scrap Rail Tie Disposal Program
CP has implemented a proactive program for managing scrap railway ties from cradle to grave to ensure regulatory compliance. Under this program, railway ties are no longer sold or given away for landscape purposes or other non-railway uses.
All rail ties that can no longer be used in a railway track are shipped to co-generation facilities for use as a supplemental fuel. This "waste to energy" program not only minimizes the use of landfills but is a "win-win" and an economically viable solution for both CP and co-generation facilities.
